Varanasi Day-4
The Grand Finale: Our Last Morning in Varanasi & A Magical Boat Ride to Assi Ghat
Namaste friends, and a very warm Har Har Mahadev! Welcome back to another travel diary here at Puneetspassport.
If you’ve been following our Varanasi series, you know just how deeply this ancient city has touched our souls. Today marks our final day in the spiritual heart of India. It’s a bittersweet feeling, but we are determined to make every single second count before we catch our train back home this afternoon.
So, grab your noise-canceling headphones, switch your screens to full-size, and let’s dive right into the mesmerizing sights and sounds of Kashi one last time!
A Quiet Morning in the Galis of Banaras
There is something incredibly special about waking up in Varanasi. This morning, we stepped out early for our usual round of morning chai and street food. To our pleasant surprise, the city revealed a much calmer, quieter side today. The usual bustling crowds were noticeably thinner, allowing us to truly appreciate the narrow, winding lanes—the famous galis—at our own pace. Navigating these ancient, stone-paved streets requires a bit of endurance, so strapping on a pair of comfortable walking shoes was the best decision of the day.
We weren’t exploring alone today, either! We met up with another wonderful family who joined us for this final leg of the trip. Sharing the magic of travel with great company always amplifies the experience.
Setting Sail from Manikarnika Ghat
With our spirits high, we made our way toward the legendary riverbanks. Our plan was simple but iconic: catch a traditional wooden boat from Dashashwamedh or Manikarnika Ghat and gently make our way down the sacred Ganges toward Assi Ghat.
As we boarded the boat, the cool morning breeze sweeping over the holy river felt incredibly refreshing. The panoramic views of the grand ghats lined up along the water are simply breathtaking. To make sure I captured the vast, sweeping beauty of the river without missing a single detail, I had my trusty GoPro Hero13 Black mounted and rolling. The stabilization on that camera is an absolute lifesaver when you’re bobbing up and down on a wooden boat, trying to film the cinematic essence of the city!
Soaking in the Vibe at Assi Ghat
Drifting along the Ganges, watching the morning rituals, the vibrant colors of the sadhus, and the timeless architecture pass by, is an experience words can barely do justice. We eventually docked at Assi Ghat. Assi has a distinctly vibrant yet relaxed energy compared to the more intense central ghats. We spent a good chunk of our afternoon here, just sitting by the steps, chatting with locals, and reflecting on the incredible journey we’ve had over the past few days.
Of course, shooting heavy 4K clips and navigating the city drains batteries fast. Luckily, I had a reliable fast-charging power bank tucked safely inside my anti-theft travel backpack, ensuring our phones and gear stayed fully juiced up so we could capture the final goodbyes.
Bidding Farewell to Kashi
By 3:00 PM, it was time to pack up our memories and head toward the Varanasi Railway Station to catch our train. Banaras has shown us its chaotic, vibrant, and ultimately peaceful forms. We are leaving with full hearts, SD cards full of memories, and a promise to return.
Thank you so much for being a part of this Varanasi journey with us. If you enjoyed this series, stay tuned for our next adventure!
